Emotional Interactions in Human Decision Making using EEG Hyperscanning

چکیده
We used the Ultimatum Game to investigate two person social decision making. The Ultimatum Game offers the experimental model to estimate the fairness, mind reading, conflict between emotion and cognition, and strategic behavior. We recorded simultaneous activity of the EEG from 64 scalp electrodes in 26 healthy participants (13 pairs of proposers and responders) and estimated the timefrequency analysis and nonlinear interdependence between the two players’ brain regions. We found that the face to face interactions modulate the Ultimatum Game behavior compared to the previous studies. We also found that the high frequency oscillations of frontocentral regions of the brain are closely related to the social interaction. Furthermore, information flow among frontocentral areas between the brains is stronger than that of other regions. This is the first study to analyze temporal dynamics and functional connectivity in human social decision-making using EEGs.

Hyperscanning neuroimaging technique to reveal the “two-in-one” system in social interactions
Using a technique for measuring brain activity simultaneously from two people, known as hyperscanning, we can calculate inter-brain neural effects that appear only in interactions between individuals. Hyperscanning studies using fMRI are advantageous in that they can precisely determine the region(s) involved in inter-brain effects. However, it is almost impossible to record inter-brain effects...
متن کاملMusic Performance As an Experimental Approach to Hyperscanning Studies
Humans are fundamentally social and tend to create emergent organizations when interacting with each other; from dyads to families, small groups, large groups, societies, and civilizations. The study of the neuronal substrate of human social behavior is currently gaining momentum in the young field of social neuroscience. Hyperscanning is a neuroimaging technique by which we can study two or mo...
متن کاملOn the interpretation of synchronization in EEG hyperscanning studies: a cautionary note
EEG Hyperscanning is a method for studying two or more individuals simultaneously with the objective of elucidating how co-variations in their neural activity (i.e., hyperconnectivity) are influenced by their behavioral and social interactions. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of different hyper-connectivity measures using (i) simulated data, where the degree of coupling cou...
متن کاملCooperation and Competition with Hyperscanning Methods: Review and Future Application to Emotion Domain
Cooperation and competition, as two common and opposite examples of interpersonal dynamics, are thought to be reflected by different cognitive, neural, and behavioral patterns. According to the conventional approach, they have been explored by measuring subjects' reactions during individual performance or turn-based interactions in artificial settings, that don't allow on-line, ecological enact...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Decision-making Quality in Hospital Managers
Background and Objectives: Evidence increasingly highlights the impact of emotional intelligence in managers on the productivity and performance of their organizations. Given the importance of decision-making in the management process, this study explored the relationship between emotional intelligence and decision-making quality in hospital managers. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-...
